Born on March 25, 1943, in Hull, Iowa, Judy’s journey was marked by unwavering faith and devotion to her family. She grew up on a family farm near Doon, Iowa, under the loving guidance of her parents, Henry and Johanna Kraayenbrink, alongside her siblings Alyda, Gerrit, Harriet, and Hank. Her upbringing instilled in her values that would define her life: hard work, faith, and a deep sense of community.
On December 27, 1961, Judy married Joe D. Van Tol, and together they embarked on a life filled with love and purpose. Their journey took them to various cities, including Sioux Center, Sioux City, Des Moines, Sioux Falls, and Yankton, before settling in Rock Valley. Their nurturing spirit extended beyond their immediate family, as they welcomed a foster son, Lloyd, into their home for several years.

While in Yankton, she owned a Christian bookstore, providing a space for others to explore and deepen their faith. Upon moving to Rock Valley, she worked as a clerk at Valley Pharmacy and later became the Heritage Club Director at Peoples Bank. Despite her professional roles, Judy’s primary passion remained her family, and she found immense joy in being a homemaker.
